If my Grandfather were indeed John Dillinger would I believe Johnny Depp's portrayal of him in the film "Public Enemies"? Not exactly at first....I actually would have thought Leonardo DiCaprio to be a better pick, as I think he looked more like John Dillinger.
Yet, I just saw the movie trailer with Johnny Depp and I have to say "WOW" what an actor!!!

My Grandfather was such a quick thinking Smart Ass and I must say that Mr. Depp.." Without a Doubt" can certainly act. Even though he does not look like John Dillinger..Yet, I can't wait to see the movie regardless.

Things I remembered of my Grandfather
John Dillinger
Things I remembered about my Grandfather...
He smoked camel non filter cigarettes with his right hand
He had Bluish-gray eyes and had worn glasses in his later years. He died in 1981 when I was only 16 yrs old.
He retired from General Motors in 1965. ( the year I was born) What he exactly did at GM, I do not know.. I do know he was given a gold fireplace mantle style clock from GM, encased in glass thanking him for his service with GM, which I still have and could possibly still have have his fingerprints on.
My Mother adored him while growing up. She used to always say that her Mother was the one whom always disciplined her while growing up. My Grandfather never laid a hand on her and was more lenient than her Mother.
He absolutely LOVED Baseball especially the Dodgers.
He was excellent with making things from wood. He made me a baby doll cradle which I still have today.
thinking back...I remember him to be somewhat bored of his life, as if something were missing in his life.
He has a cleft chin, thin lips as did Dillinger. In comparison, My Grandfathers eyebrows are not as thick as Dillingers, though they could have been easily trimmed down.
He had always worn black or gray suits and worn hats with black trim.

John Dillinger used to go by the name of Jimmy Lawrence.
One of John Dillingers gang members had the name of Walter Ditrich....Did my Grandfather take on this last name of Ditrich only spelled ( Dietrich) in a different way ?
In the photo of my Grandfather holding my Mother ..Is it a coincidence that he holds his right hand almost the same way Dillinger did in that famous photo? or is it sign to show that he was still alive?
